Characteristics of Organizations

For Maximiano (1995), organization comprises “a combination of individual efforts aimed at achieving collective purposes. In addition to people, organizations use other resources, such as machines and equipment, money, time, space and knowledge”. Organizations are characterized by the existence of a social division of work, planning, objectives that justify the very purpose of their existence, in addition to a hierarchical and rationalized power structure. They have some characteristics that are basic and common to almost all existing ones. According to their objectives, organizations are created to obtain products and/or services, for profit or not. Organizations have objectives since their inception, as they were created to meet specific needs (MAXIMIANO).

According to Moraes (2004), the human and material elements, which are part of organizations, have a strong connection and interdependence with the environment, in which they are inserted, and with it making constant exchanges. Organizations are different from each other, no two are the same, just like people. They can last for months, decades or centuries, outlasting their founders, or they can suddenly disappear, for the simple fact that they are not perfect systems.

Importance of Organizations

Modern society is characterized as a society of organizations, since individuals spend most of their lives working, expressing themselves, having fun through them, and most essential products and services depend on the commitment of organizations to achieve them. them. Organizations do not only have a role to meet customer needs and generate profit, they also have a social function. Just as they are influenced by people, seeking to identify their needs in order to meet them, organizations also influence people in society.
